Liturgical calendar data
------------------------
The universal General Roman Calendar data in internal/caldata/roman-calendar.ini
was bootstrapped with reference to romcal (https://github.com/romcal/romcal),
which is distributed under the MIT License, and verified against the official
General Roman Calendar. The data as committed here is lectio's own, maintained
independently.

Extraordinary Form (1962) calendar data
---------------------------------------
The 1962 universal sanctoral in internal/caldata/tridentine-calendar.ini was
generated (scripts/gen-sanctoral-ef.go) from missalemeum.com's per-date proper
API, which is built on Divinum Officium (https://divinumofficium.com) 1962 data
-- English names, rank, colour, and the proper Epistle/Gospel CITATIONS (not the
reading text). Latin names are lectio's own hand-curation. The data as committed
is lectio's, may be freely hand-edited, and carries no upstream licence.

Lectionary data (reading citations)
-----------------------------------
The Mass reading CITATIONS (scripture references, not the text) in
internal/caldata/tridentine-lectionary.ini (Extraordinary Form) and
internal/caldata/of-lectionary.ini (Ordinary Form) were compiled from
missalemeum.com (Divinum Officium data, EF), niedziela.pl (OF Christmas-season
weekdays), and catholic-resources.org (Fr. Felix Just, S.J. — the Ordinary Form
Ordinary-Time weekday lectionary via scripts/genlect-of-cr.py; the proper
weekdays of Advent, Lent and Eastertide via scripts/genlect-of-season-ferials-cr.py;
the Sunday and temporal-solemnity lectionary, all three cycles, via
scripts/genlect-of-sundays-cr.py; and the proper readings of the OF sanctoral —
feasts, solemnities and proper-reading memorials — inlined into
roman-calendar.ini via scripts/gen-of-sanctoral-readings.py). Only the references
were taken; the reading TEXT is rendered from the corpora described below, whose
individual terms differ — see "Scripture corpora" for what each one is and what
may be done with it.

OF sanctoral calendar
---------------------
The Ordinary Form universal sanctoral in internal/caldata/roman-calendar.ini was
generated (scripts/gen-sanctoral.go) from the General Roman Calendar published by
calapi.inadiutorium.cz (calendarium-romanum project) -- English/Latin names, rank
and colour -- with Polish names from niedziela.pl. The Polish names are now
complete for the universal calendar: the remaining entries were hand-curated in
the standard Polish liturgical (genitive) form. The data as committed is lectio's
own.

Scripture corpora — deuterocanon
--------------------------------
The deuterocanonical books added to the Vulgate (vul) and Douay-Rheims (drb)
corpora are public-domain texts obtained via get.bible (getbible/v2):
the Clementine Vulgate (Clementine Vulgate Project / M. Tweedale, CBCEW-
authorized, public domain) and the Douay-Rheims (Challoner), public domain.

Eight further verses absent from drb (Genesis 27:23, Exodus 9:21, Job 32:18,
Job 40:4 and 40:25-28) were taken from the same get.bible douayrheims text,
which that API records as "Public Domain". Baruch 6:37 is absent from drb and
from that source alike -- a genuine Douay/Vulgate versification difference,
not a gap.

Scripture corpora — wuj (Polish)
--------------------------------
The bulk of the Wujek corpus -- the great majority of its 35,810 verses -- was
harvested from biblia.info.pl's Biblia Jakuba Wujka (scripts/scrape-wujek.py),
a public-domain text. Chapter and verse structure was then repaired against the
Clementine Vulgate; the corpus now carries exactly the Vulgate's verse set.

Roughly 300 verses are NOT from that source and NOT public domain: the 286 in
the passages listed below, which biblia.info.pl does not carry at all, plus a
few dozen scattered single verses it omits. They come from

Pismo Święte Starego i Nowego Testamentu w przekładzie polskim
    W. O. Jakuba Wujka S. J., tekst poprawił ks. Stanisław Styś S.J.
    Kraków, Wydawnictwo Apostolstwa Modlitwy, 1962

Wujek's translation itself is public domain, but ks. Styś died in 1959, so his
revision remains in copyright in Poland (70 years p.m.a.) until the end of
2029. It is used here by permission obtained from the publisher for this
project. That permission is NOT a general licence: anyone redistributing this
corpus, or shipping a "fullbible" binary, needs their own.

The passages concerned are the deuterocanonical portions biblia.info.pl does
not carry at all, plus one single verse:

Daniel 3:31-100 70 the Prayer of Azariah and the Song of the Three
    Daniel 13 65 Susanna
Daniel 14 42 Bel and the Dragon
    Esther 10:4-13 10
Esther 11-16 98 the Greek additions
    Sirach 33:19 1

Scripture corpora — grb (Greek)
-------------------------------
Derived from grb (https://github.com/lukesmithxyz/grb) by
scripts/gen-grb-lectio.py, which restricts it to the 73 books of the Vulgate
canon. Upstream carries 87 books; the eleven with no Vulgate counterpart are
dropped and five that ARE canonical under other names are remapped (Daniel and
Susanna and Bel in Theodotion's version, which is the one Jerome translated;
the Letter of Jeremiah as Baruch 6; Wisdom of Solomon as Wisdom).

New Testament — the SBL Greek New Testament:

The Greek New Testament: SBL Edition. Michael W. Holmes, editor.

MODIFIED for lectio: the SBLGNT critical-apparatus sigla (U+2E00-U+2E0D)
are stripped from the text, and books outside the Vulgate canon are not
    included.

Old Testament — the Septuagint in Rahlfs' edition. Its status is NOT settled
and this file does not assert one. Alfred Rahlfs died in 1935, which on the
EU's 70-years-p.m.a. rule would place his 1935 text in the public domain from
2006; but the Deutsche Bibelgesellschaft asserts rights over its editions, the
2006 editio altera (Hanhart) is a separate later work, and get.bible records
the same text as "Copyrighted; Free non-commercial distribution". Treat the
Greek Old Testament as of uncertain licence until someone qualified says
otherwise.

The grb script itself is public domain (per its README).

Scripture corpora — embedding and licence
-----------------------------------------
The bible corpora are NOT covered by lectio's AGPL licence. They are separate
third-party scripture texts, each with its own provenance and its own terms.
They are not uniformly public domain -- see the sections above for detail:

vul Latin Vulgate (Clementine). Public domain.
  drb Douay-Rheims (Challoner). Public domain.
wuj Biblia Jakuba Wujka. Public domain EXCEPT ~300 verses from the
1962 Styś revision, in copyright until the
end of 2029 and used here by permission
                                    granted for this project only.
grb Greek. New Testament CC BY 4.0 (SBLGNT,
                                    attribution required). Old Testament
                                    Rahlfs' Septuagint, licence unsettled.

Only the Latin Vulgate (internal/bible/corpora/vul.tsv) is embedded in the
default binary, so a build carries no third-party scripture text beyond the
public-domain Vulgate. The remaining corpora live in
internal/bible/corpora_optional/ and are compiled in only with the "fullbible"
build tag, or loaded at runtime from the user corpora dir. Ship a fullbible
binary, or redistribute the optional corpora, only where doing so is permitted.
